Despite Liverpool’s dominance in the Premier League this season, former Manchester United player and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville remains doubtful about their ability to win the title. The Reds have won an impressive 15 out of 17 matches and currently lead the league by five points, but Neville believes that their lack of squad depth and potential defensive vulnerabilities could hinder their title chances.
Neville pointed out that while Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino have been in outstanding form, the team may struggle if any of them were to suffer injuries. He also raised concerns about the team’s susceptibility to defensive lapses, citing their recent match against Salzburg in the Champions League where they conceded three goals despite ultimately winning the game.
Despite his reservations, Neville acknowledged that Liverpool have shown great resilience and character in their performances this season, and that their attacking prowess could be enough to see them through. However, he believes that the likes of Manchester City and Leicester City could still pose a significant threat to their title aspirations.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can prove Neville wrong and clinch their first league title in over 30 years.
